“PILLS, POLITICS & EMPATHY”
AUTHOR PRESENTATION AND BOOK SIGNING

October 3, 2010, Aurora, NY - Authors Peter R. Breggin, MD and Pamela S. K. Glasner will be talking about their books, their experiences, and how their belief in — and practice of — Empathy may help to rectify a troubling situation which deeply affects all of us.  The Aurora Arts and Design Center is featuring a special joint author appearance Sunday, November 14th, 2010 at 2 pm  in Aurora, NY.

Psychiatry views persons in emotional distress in simplistic, biological terms.  The procedure of diagnosis and prescription of psychiatric drugs offers cold and false comfort and frequently complicates the patient’s issues through dangerous and sometimes devastating adverse effects.  Unfortunately the industry of ‘treating’ those labeled mentally ill too often becomes a matter of controlling, ostracizing and victimizing those who come for help, the most vulnerable being the young, the elderly, the quirky, the dreamers and, those who truly are emotionally disturbed.

Peter R. Breggin, MD is a psychiatrist and author of more than 20 books including his most recent, Medication Madness: The Role of Psychiatric Drugs in Cases of Violence, Suicide, and Crime. Firmly based in the latest scientific research and dozens of case studies, it reads like a medical thriller — a true crime story and courtroom drama — but it is firmly based in the latest scientific research and dozens of case studies: the lives of children, adults, their families and loved ones who are thrown into turmoil and sometimes destroyed by the unanticipated effects of psychiatric drugs.

Finding Emmaus is Pamela Glasner’s fictional yet factual novel, a book which takes the reader on a harrowing 350-year journey through the history of treatment for the mentally ill, eventually exposing the multi-billion dollar conspiracy between the US Food and Drug Administration and the pharmaceutical industry in which millions of people the world over are being deliberately misdiagnosed and drugged.

Both authors are dynamic, compelling (and humorous!) speakers and this event promises to be a fun and informative event.
